Holbrook, Massachusetts — Three police officers rescued a driver trapped in a burning Jeep following a crash on Sunday, October 25, according to WHDH 7News and Boston.com, which cited Holbrook Police.

Sgt. Martin Faherty and Officers Jonathan O’Brien and Matthew Richards worked together to free the driver and move him away from the vehicle. The department said the rescue took place within about a minute of officers arriving.

Boston.com reported that the driver’s foot was pinned beneath the damaged dashboard as flames spread. O’Brien initially tried to free him before Faherty and Richards joined the rescue.

O’Brien sustained minor burns to his fingers. Holbrook firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire, treated the driver and transported him to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. His injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

Police Chief David Del Papa credited the officers’ quick arrival and immediate response with likely saving the driver’s life, according to both outlets.

Boston.com also reported that police were seeking a summons for the driver on charges including operating under the influence and negligent operation. Those are allegations, not findings of guilt. The crash remained under investigation in that report.
